Heparin T-shirt
This lovely stamp was issued by Aland
in 1994 and celebrates J. Erik Jorpes a pioneer in the identification and
clinical applications of heparin. Swedish biochemist J. Erik Jorpes is
credited with identifying the chemical structure of heparin (a potent blood
thinner) and promoting its use as standard therapy for many common disorders.
The
Åland's autonomous status means that those provincial powers
normally exercised by representatives of the central Finnish government are
largely exercised by its own government, and thus Aland can issued its own stamps.
